Shibori Summer

What better time than summer to get into a shibori mood. That's exactly what Joaquina has been busily creating - shibori fashions and accessories in the bold, vibrant colors of summer. Shibori, for those unfamiliar with the term, is a method of dyeing fabric based on traditional Japanese resist techniques that create amazing designs and textures. It's one of Joaquina's favorite textile treatments, and we'll use shibori on just about anything: scarves, jeans, blouses, handbags, underwear, even socks!

This cotton tank was dyed using a fold and clamp technique to create a sekka pattern. The totebag pictured to the right was made from upcycled canvas that we dyed using stitch resist.  Shibori is great fun and results in beautiful, unique art-to-wear. Hand-dyed garments should always be washed in cool water with a mild detergent.

These and other shibori fashions can be purchased directly from Joaquina Design Studio at joaquinadesignstudio.bigcartel.com
